The following is an in-depth case study on Whitecap’s adoption of ProMonitor Risk & Integrity. Whitecap Resources were interested in a software solution that provides accurate data visualization and customizable pipeline risk & integrity management modules that includes unlimited users and reports on compliance to both local & provincial regulations. Reasons for starting ProMonitor Risk & Integrity

4. The Detailed Pipeline Assessment Report can be produced instantly for any date period you wish to pull from, and the scores, bounds, factor weightings, and matrix table are fully customizable depending on client’s request.
How it’s going
1. Whitecap is actively involved in improving the software package and have also recommended the ProMonitor Risk & Integrity to potential clients.
If you have oil and gas facilities, they are at risk of failing due to internal or external corrosion. Whitecap currently has over 22,000 pipelines which need to be managed on a regular basis. All these pipelines also need to comply with local and provincial regulations based on where they are located. For example: in Alberta, active pipelines with No flow for 12 months needs to be discontinued.
Risk varies from pipeline to pipeline and from location to location, so Whitecap needed a risk assessment program that is completely customizable to accurately reflect the risk associated with each individual pipelines and a software program that could recommend mitigation activity and the frequency at which the activity should be conducted to reduce the risk on the pipelines. The algorithm of this assessment was developed through decades of experience and research, following best practices as recommended by NACE, ASME, CSA Z662 and CAPP. It incorporates over 100 variables for risk calculations for the Internal causes Likelihood, External Corrosion Likelihood, and the Consequence score. The factors that represent each Likelihood are being given a score based on how they affect the pipeline integrity. That score gets multiplied by the weighting of that factor. The weighting represents the importance of that factor in our risk assessment.
That Extended score gets ranked based on the bounds set for the Likelihood (ICL, ECL, GTL) and Consequence (GC) in ProMonitor, which gives us an overall score for that pipeline as seen in the report above.

We can generate a mitigated risk assessment report based on the mitigated practices, that are being applied to that pipeline against an unmitigated risk assessment report for that same pipeline. The risk assessment report also contains the pipeline physical information’s, flow volumes, chemistry and characteristics and other various parameters we consider in the risk analysis of a pipeline.

They work relatively to each other and is mostly needed in evaluating which pipelines are more at risk.
