Corrosion / Risk Assessment
From a fifteen year study by the ERCB (EUB Report 2007: Pipeline Performance in
Alberta), the predominant cause of pipeline failure in Alberta has been internal
corrosion, at 69.7% of all failures. This is due to the highly corrosive nature
of raw oil and gas. CriticalControl provides an important service in its internal
corrosion risk assessment by adherence to several steps:
Step 1:
Pipeline data is verified for accuracy, with flow directions, and connectivity
between wells established.
Step 2:
The pipeline network is modelled, substances established (oil, gas, water)
and flows are tracked from well to plant.
Step 3:
Calculations are performed, utilizing industry leading flow and chemistry
algorithms.
Step 4:
Results are displayed graphically and easily understood. Individual pipeline
segments are colour coded by potential for failure, as well as a risk ranking for
the entire field.
CriticalControl helps producers avoid pipeline failures by identifying potential
areas before they become a problem. Maintenance activities are prioritized, and
optimum mitigation programs to follow are recommended.
